Coiled Snake slashed at a stealthy gray she-cat. The cat ducked, but Coiled Snake's claws still cut her ear. Coiled Snake prepared to leap at the gray cat while it was still stunned, but before she could, a large tabby tom leapt onto her to her back. Coiled Snake desperately tried to get him off of her. To her surprise, he jumped off himself. Coiled Snake struggled to her paws, blood welling from a deep cut in her right hind leg. She faced the tabby, her amber gaze challenging. He jumped at her in a flying leap. She, too, leapt, meeting the tom in midair. She sunk her teeth into his fore paw.
Once they landed, the cat kicked Coiled Snake in the belly, forcing her to let go of his paw. Coiled Snake jumped to her feet. She flung herself at the tom. Claws flashed. Soon, Coiled Snake was panting, but triumphant. She had beat the tom, but the attacking cats outnumbered HawkPack. She looked around. She had to find the leader of this group! She had to find out what she was fighting for!
Coiled Snake gave up searching the crowd of cats for the leader of the attackers. Instead she called, "Stop!" all of the cats, even members of HawkPack, stared up at her as if she were crazy. Coiled Snake ignored them and continued. "I am Coiled Snake, the leader of HawkPawk. I wish to see the leader of the attacking cats and find out what you want." Coiled Snake had just finished speaking when a gray tom emerged from the cats. He was slightly limping, had a badly torn ear and had nasty bleeding cuts all over his pelt.
The gray cat bared his teeth indignantly as he spoke. "Hello, Coiled Snake. My name is Shenar. I am the cat you seek. I am the leader of this group of cats."
"Shenar, I do not know what you want from us. Why are you fighting HawkPack?" Coiled Snake meowed.
"Ah, that," Shenar said as if it were unimportant. Then his voice hardened and rose and his claws unsheathed as he called, "There is a cat in this group, HawkPack you called it I believe?" Without giving Coiled Snake time to answer, Shenar continued, "She is unworthy. I am almost sure that I saw her heading this way when she left us. If you have her, then hand her over. We will dispose of her. If you hide her, then we will fight you."
Coiled Snake blinked. Could Shenar possibly mean Neptune? Then she meowed, "We don't have her. I am sorry."
Shenar looked at her closely. Finally he announced, "Fine. But, we will be watching you. Just to make sure that you are being truthful." Then, with a flick of his tail, all of the enemy cats left the clearing.

The Flaming River #4
The morning sun peaked over the orange-lined horizon. Most of the cats of HawkPack where still asleep, but Icy River was worried. She didn't fully trust Neptune and she felt like Coiled Snake was too relaxed around the newcomer. She pulled her kits closer to her with her tail. She glanced around, loosening her grip around her kittens. Then, she rose. Icy River walked quietly into the clearing. She walked over to the den that Neptune and a few other cats slept in. She peeked inside. She stiffed a sigh of relief. Neptune was still in the den and was fast asleep.
Suddenly, Icy River heard a small sound. She whipped around, taken by surprise. Then, she heard yet another soft crunch. She narrowed her eyes, trying to see what was making the sounds. When her eyes finally adjusted to the light, she saw the outlines of several cats picking their way down the cliff!
She opened her mouth to scream a warning to her pack, when the cats swarmed around her. She was tackled down by two cats. Icy River screeched in fury, racking her claws across the side of a large orange tom. She saw Shy Fawn peek around the corner of the den that she shared with Icy River. Shy Fawn screamed when she saw what was happening. She called out the packs' battle cry to awaken HawkPack. The battle raged on as Icy River saw her pack mates fling themselves into the fight.
She turned her thoughts back to the battle. She now had the large orange tom pinned to the ground. She hissed and bit his shoulder, hard. He screeched in pain and she let go, letting him flee. She swiveled around as she felt sharp claws rip at her back. Icy River hit the aggressor's head repeatedly, desperately trying to make her release her grip. The new attacker was a beautiful white she-cat with light green eyes.
Icy River shook her head. Stop thinking about unimportant things. Concentrate on the battle! She told herself.
Then, Icy River glared at the white she-cat. She flung herself at the cat, claws unsheathed. The white cat shook her off. Icy River stood still for a moment, stunned. Then, she whipped around and lashed out at her opponent with her hind claws. Turning to face the cat, Icy River felt a pang of sympathy for the she-cat. So, she raced away from her attacker.
Icy River looked around, trying to find someone that needed some help fending off their opponent. Then, she spotted Swift Breeze. Swift Breeze was struggling with two cats fighting her. Icy River flung herself at a golden and white tom. She was poised on his back now. She bit his tail with all of her strength. The tom flipped over, crushing her with his weight. She tried again and again to wriggle out from underneath him, but again and again he stopped her. Finally, she managed to free herself from his grip. She then turned on him, her jaws parted in a furious hiss. This was her home, and she was going to defend it with her life.

The Flaming River #4
Coiled Snake led her search party along the edge of the border. Then, Coiled Snake let out an exited cry. She had spotted three small shapes walking in the direction that the scent trail was going in! Those little figures might be the missing kits!
"Mew!" cried a very startled Hissing Snake.
"There! The kits are over there!" called Coiled Snake to the search party. The cats circled around the confused kits with anger in their eyes.
"You made us all get worried sick!"
"What do you think you were doing?"
Coiled Snake waved her tail in the air to silence the voices of her cats. Then, when they were all quiet, she called, "Lets ask the kits only the impotent questions and give them time to answer." Then she paused to catch her breath. She spoke once more as she walked toward the trembling kittens. "Now, what were you three doing, exactly?" she asked, her amber eyes piercing the kits' eyes.
"W-w-well, we wanted t-to chase a-away the stray cat..." said Singing Jay, her voice shacking.
"What? You kits wanted to chase down the cat that is on our hunting grounds? Are you kits crazy? You could have gotten yourselves killed!" Coiled Snake spat, enraged.
"No cat can scare me!" Summer Storm piped up bravely.
Coiled Snake purred. "Come on then. Let's go home." Coiled Snake admired the kit's strength in the situation but, decided not to say anything.

Soon, Coiled Snake, the search party and the kits were quite close to home. Coiled Snake shot into the clearing, calling to her cats to announce their arrival. But, then Coiled Snake stopped in her tracks. A vaguely recognizable scent hit her nose and a strange pelt came into site. The stray cat!
Coiled Snake resumed her dart forward to address the new cat. "What are you doing here?" she asked the gray she-cat with a white splash on her chest.
"I-I was just passing through...I wont do you any harm," the cat meowed, fear in her eyes.
"We wont do you any harm, as long as you leave!" Rock Shadow spat.
"Silence, Rock Shadow! Everyone, give the newcomer some space!" Coiled Snake called to her cats.
"Can I leave now?" the she-cat asked.
"What is your name? Mine is Coiled Snake. I am the leader of HawkPack," Coiled Snake meowed, waving her tail over the many curios faces watching the stray cat, ignoring the cat's question.
"My name? My name is Neptune," Neptune mewed in a soft voice.
"Pleased to meet you, Neptune. I know that this is a little uncalled for but, would you like to join HawkPack?" Coiled Snake asked.
"W-well, of coarse," Neptune meowed, surprise filling her eyes.
"Alright, then. Everyone, introduce yourselves to Neptune," Coiled Snake called.
"Hello. I'm Icy River. These are my kits, Summer Storm, Singing Jay and Hissing Snake. This is my mate, Rock Shadow," Icy River meowed to Neptune, pointing out the cats that she was naming as she went.
"Hi!" Neptune purred.
"My name is Shy Fawn," Shy Fawn called to Neptune.
"Hello, Shy Fawn," Neptune called back.
"My name is Maple Leaf," Maple Leaf meowed, dipping her head to Neptune.
"Hi!" Neptune said.
"I'm named Soft Breeze," Soft Breeze meowed, gazing happily up at Neptune.
"Pleased to meet you," Neptune said.
"I'm Casting Shadow. Hello, Neptune," Casting Shadow called to Neptune from the far side of the clearing.
"Welcome to HawkPack," Coiled Snake meowed.

The Flaming River #3
Icy River watched her little trio of fur balls play with each other, mewling all the while. She was saddened that her kits might have to grow up in a world of fear, grow up afraid of straying, even slightly, away from a group of cats while hunting, she had grown up like that, and didn't want to relive those horrors.
Deep in thought, she had not realized that Rock Shadow, her beloved mate, had joined her side. She slightly jumped in surprise.
Once she had settled down after her little jump, Icy River meowed to him, "Hi there, Rock Shadow. I didn't see you there."
"Hi," was his only reaction. He was acting like his mind was busy with thoughts himself.
"What's wrong? You seem depressed about something," said Icy River gently.
Rock Shadow turned around sharply to look her directly in the face. "Nothing's wrong! Keep your nose in your own business!" he spat.
"What is with you? Do you have ear mites in your ears?" Icy River hissed.
Rock Shadow glared at her and then stalked out of the den. Icy River felt enraged and empty. Whenever she and Rock Shadow had little spats like this, she always wondered what had caused his rage. This time around, she knew that her guess of this cause was at lest close to right: that he was upset about the uproar he had caused at the meeting that Coiled Snake had called about the stay cat scent that she found while hunting.
Icy River was shaken out of her thoughts once more when she went to check on her kits. Then she realized something: Summer Storm, Singing Jay and Hissing Snake were all gone! She screeched a warning to the pack, "My kits are gone! My kits are gone!" she shouted to all of HawkPack.
Quickly, Coiled Snake set into action. She herself went on the search party. Icy River had to stay behind because she was a mother. She sighed, sadness enveloping her. Without her kittens, how would she have?
Shy Fawn pressed against Icy River to comfort her. But, Icy River had to many problems weighing down her mind to be comforted. Where had her kits diapered to? What would happen with the stray cat? And what was it exactly that was troubling her mate? She wished for answers that she knew would come in time, or would they?

The Flaming River #2
Coiled Snake sniffed the air for any scents of prey.
Rabbit, to much of a chase. Old frog scent....! Stray cat!?
Coiled Snake quietly hissed a warning to Maple Leaf and Rock Shadow. The two sniffed the air to pinpoint where the intruder was and quickly flattened themselves to the ground. Coiled Snake sighed in defeat. She had dealt with stray cat groups before and had lost many cats to their blood-hungry claws.

She turned towards the "camp" that HawkPack lived in. Then, she meowed, "Let's go home. We don't want to pick fights right now."
Rock Shadow opened his jaws in protest, but then, grudgingly, he stalked off. Maple Leaf simply fallowed Coiled Snake's orders and trotted beside Rock Shadow. Coiled Snake walked behind them, every once in a while, she would cast a worried glance over her shoulder.
Once Coiled Snake was back home, she told all of HawkPack the bad news."While hunting, we found out that a stray came into our hunting grounds. We did not see the cat, and I believe that he or she didn't hunt here. Let's just hope that this stray cat doesn't come back here ever again."
Rock Shadow raised his voice above all of the others. "What should we do about it though? Surly we won't just ignore the fact that a cat crossed the scent line that we made? Surly we won't just hope that it doesn't come again? We must FIGHT this cat to tech it a lesson." His eyes were burning with rage.
"You are to hungry for battle! We must avoid spilling blood whenever we can! The cat came one time. You must think before a you decide to fight," Coiled Snake hissed, enraged.
Rock Shadow glared up at her like a discouraged kit that hadn't gotten it's way. "Fine," he muttered.
"Dismissed," Coiled Snake called to her pack-mates.
As she watched her pack depart, Coiled Snake wondered if this stray cat would come often, or even live here. Would...would HawkPack have to move again?

The Flaming River #1
Icy River looked down at her kittens, Summer Storm, Hissing Snake, and Singing Jay. Coiled Snake, the leader of HawkPack, walked over from the other side of the clearing and let out a gentle purr.
"Soft Breeze told me how old your kits are. They grow so fast! What are their names?" Coiled Snake meowed joyfully.
Icy River meowed proudly, "This is Summer Storm," she nodded at the brown tabby she-cat with a white chest and belly, "this is Hissing Snake," she flicked her tail at the gray tom with brown paws and a brown jagged spot on his back, "and this is Singing Jay," she glanced at the final kitten that was a molted gray-and-white she-cat.
"What wonderful names, fitting for these wonderful kittens, of course. I do have to go and hunt right now, but it was a pleasure to meet your wonderful family. I'm sure that they will be great hunters and fighters," meowed Coiled Snake over her shoulder.
"Good-bye!" Icy River called after her.
As she and her kittens walked into the shelter of the small cave that they lived in with Shy Fawn, Rock Shadow, Icy River's mate, ran up beside her and their kits.
"Hello, Rock Shadow!" Icy River meowed cheerfully.
"Hi! Maple Leaf told me that we should begin training our kits!" Rock Shadow meowed.
"MEW! I can't wait to start!" meowed Hissing Snake at the top of his voice.
"Let's go!" meowed Icy River as she ran off.

After a long day, Icy River curled up in her nest. Purring joyfully, she tucked her kittens closer to her and slept happily.

The Flaming River-Preview
Coiled Snake padded along the silver-lit stone.
Moonlight lit her fur as she looked upward and whispered, "Oh please help us StarCats, please," her quiet mew was desperate.
Coiled Snake looked down at her moonlight-bathed paws, and at a nest made of ferns.
"This is the place," she meowed.
She sat down, in the nest and looked at the thin wisps of clouds that drifted above her. Suddenly, a orange tabby tom jumped off of a cloud.
"Hello, Burning Flame. I-I need help, will you help my pack," Coiled Snake said.
"Of course. All StarCats of MoonSky always help cats in need," Burning Flame meowed."Now tell me what is bothering you."
"Stray cats are stealing prey from our hunting grounds. A dog keeps on straying from its High-walkers. We can't fight the dog or the stray cats and when we do, we lose from our hunger," Coiled Snake meowed.
"I see. I know the solution to all of this. You must become HawkPack. Find more cats to join you and move away from this place. The StarCats will be watching you from MoonSky. Just remember; you are never alone."
"Thank you so much, Burning Flame. I have so many questions, but they can wait. Good-bye," Coiled Snake licked Burning Flame's ear and got up.
"Good-bye," Coiled Snake herd his mew echoing in the distance.
She raced down the steep hillside. Her brown tabby pelt glowed in the dawn light. Her head filled with the new information. Her green eyes heavy with worry. Was Burning Flame's decision right for her pack?
