Good-bye, 2011

2011 is the year BlackCat13, KittyLover8, littlekitty5, and SuperPOWerHorse started "The Purple Paw". We started in October, and we have done 41 posts within that time. I encourage viewers to comment on our posts and tell us how they like our blog. I also would like to tell our viewers thank you. We think that 2011 has been a wonderful year.

Hello, 2012!

-KittyLover8

The year 2011 was full of creativity and new ideas. I'm not saying it was perfect though. It had its epic wins and its epic fails, along with lots of burnt popcorn kernels and caramel apples. :3 I hope 2012 will not be the end of the world and I hope I find no more burnt popcorn kernels in my popcorn bowl.

Happy New Year!

~littlekitty5

The Purple Paw had a late start in 2011, but we look forward to a full year of posting in 2012. Keep visiting us because when you do, it encourages us to write! I'm sure 2012 will be full of new stories to follow and maybe some new categories on the blog.

Welcome 2012!

-BlackCat13

In 2011 I had a great time, to bad it's over. I will really miss it. :( Well, 2012 is coming! :)

New Year's Eve With Dust

Dust emerged from behind the living room couch where he had been playing with a orange rubber ball. He walked into the kitchen for a quick bite to eat. His owner was making some punch in a large bowl.

What's she doing?
He thought.

Then, Dust realized that his human was talking to someone on the thingy called a phone. What is going on? Dust needed to know.

Dust padded away, heading for his food dish. Whatever his owner was doing, it was sure to be
something he did not approve of.

*******

Dust heard the sound of a door shutting. He rushed over ton the hall to see the human that had come. The second he saw that it wasn't just any old human and that it was a hole human family, he knew that something was up. Then, the doorbell rang.

Well this is odd...
Dust thought.

Three more families and two humans pored into the now loud room.

Dust knew what was happening.

Not another holiday! They already stuffed themselves silly at Thanksgiving, why did they need to do it again?

But, maybe they weren't all that bad. I mean, they couldn't all be bad...some of them had to be kind. So, at that, Dust rubbed up against a male human that was talking with a much larger male. Dust arched his back with joy as he waited for gentle fingers to scratch his chin and pet his flank.

But none came.

Who cares! I don't need any human to pamper me! he thought. Although, inside he felt sad and unloved.

Thinking that maybe there where some nice, cat-loving, book-reading humans, he meowed loudly to make himself the center of attention. The bustling group stopped talking and stared at him for a moment. One, a brown-haired human, walked up to him and cuddled him. He purred happily and butted his head against her chin. She set him down on a couch. Dust called sadly after her, but she was out of earshot. He sighed. He wished that the joyful moment he had spent with her had never ended.

*******

Later that day, all of the humans left. Dust said a final good-bye to the kind female human that had comforted him.

"Bye, Dust," she said.

Then, when she'd left, the house was silent. Dust ate a few scraps of forgotten food then he walked away, uninterested in anything but sleep.

After climbing the flight of stairs, Dust curled up on his owner's bed and slept. He dreamed that he was back in the brown-haired female's arms.

When he awoke, he knew that today was a new day. A new time. A new life. A new year.

Fallen Stars 2-Broken Silence

Sunset awoke, as she stood up, pain griped her tail. A fox had attacked the cave that she and a few more cats live in. She cast an uneasy glance at her tail and gave it a sniff. Sunset let out a sigh. Although her tail hurt like fire, it wasn't infected.

She walked out of the den, but one of her paws brushed up against a dry, brown leaf. Crow lifted his head, his eyes squinting in the dawn light. "Wazza?" Crow meowed.

"It's just me, Sunset," Sunset reassured him.

"I could care less if it where you or that mangy fox coming back again! I just want to sleep! It would be nice if I could without cats stomping around in the leaves like an upset badger!" Crow growled.

Sunset flicked her ears in anger. But then she just shook it off. Sunset then, pushed the rest of her way out of the den. Orange-red sunlight filled the deep-purple sky. Sunset loved dawn.

Blaze walked up to her, "Would you like to hunt with me, Sunset?" he asked.

Sunset blinked in surprise, then she shook her head to clear it and then asked, "Have you, Stone, and Crow checked for fox scent?"

"Yes. We found out that it left our hunting grounds."

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's hunt!" Sunset purred.

Then, tails trailing behind them, they ran off.

********

Sunset was stalking a vole. Once she was about three feet away from it, she ponced. But she had missed the little creature by an inch. She sighed. Then she stood up from where she lay in the grass.

Sunset lifted her head higher and slightly parted her jaws. The strong sent of mouse wafted into her nose. Sunset carefully stalked the small gray shape that was just ahead of her. Quickly, she leaped on top of her prey. She then picked up the limp mouse and placed it down beside her other catches; two birds.

A sudden crackle behind some thick trees made her spin around.

"Blaze?" she called.

No answer.

"Blaze? Blaze, are you there?"

Another loud snap of a twig.

"Blaze, please help me," Sunset whispered meekly, her eyes wide with fear.

Sunset tasted the air, only to find a strange stench filling the air. What is this creature, and why is it here? she thought.

Just then, a human walked out of the trees. Sunset let out a startled gasp when she saw what the human was carrying inside a cage; Blaze!

Sunset screeched with rage and flung herself at the human's leg. The human yowled and dropped the cage. And with that, it sprang open. Quickly, Blaze raced out of the cold silver cage.

The human yowled again and grabbed her. She screeched in fury as she was shoved into the hard cage. Then, Sunset turned around, wanting to see if Blaze was okay. Suddenly, she felt a sharp wave of pain quickly grow as she hit her head on the hard metal of the cage. Then everything went black.

********

Sunset awoke on a soft rug covering the ground underneath her. She shook her head, dizzy from all of the new sites and sounds.

Sunset sighed. Remembering where she was. She had been here, trapped with the humans for a week. She was always grateful for the kindness and gentleness they showed her, but she wanted to be back home, in the cave.

A young human stroked her fur. Sunset closed her eyes in content, but a question raked through her mind; was she trapped here forever?

"Meow!" Cats Speak Out #3

Feather stood beside the window, listening to the rain drumming on the glass. Feather would bat at the droplets if they happened to dribble down the screen. Her ears twitched at the sound of a door opening. She ran down the stairs and raced through the small crack in the half-opened door.

Excitement flared through her as the the wet grass brushed against her long gray fur. Her ears flattened as she streaked past a fence. Slowing, she noticed her owner was almost upon her. Feather stopped; giving in, letting her owner bring her back to the warmth of her home.

Rain split her fur, and stray droplets sat on her whiskers. Shivering, she shook the drops off; much to the displeasure of her now-yowling owner.

Once home, her owner placed her on the floor and scolded her. Taking no notice, Feather walked away, tired after her mini adventure.

Before she slept, she looked out the window. She shivered, remembering the cold wind that had pulled at her fur and had bit at her nose and ears. Not looking back, Feather curled up on the bed. And, glad to be home, she slept.

The Flaming River-Preview

Coiled Snake padded along the silver-lit stone.

Moonlight lit her fur as she looked upward and whispered, "Oh please help us StarCats, please," her quiet mew was desperate.

Coiled Snake looked down at her moonlight-bathed paws, and at a nest made of ferns.

"This is the place," she meowed.

She sat down, in the nest and looked at the thin wisps of clouds that drifted above her. Suddenly, a orange tabby tom jumped off of a cloud.

"Hello, Burning Flame. I-I need help, will you help my pack,"
Coiled Snake said.

"Of course. All StarCats of MoonSky always help cats in need," Burning Flame meowed."Now tell me what is bothering you."

"Stray cats are stealing prey from our hunting grounds. A dog keeps on straying from its High-walkers. We can't fight the dog or the stray cats and when we do, we lose from our hunger,"
Coiled Snake meowed.

"I see. I know the solution to all of this. You must become HawkPack. Find more cats to join you and move away from this place. The StarCats will be watching you from MoonSky. Just remember; you are never alone."

"Thank you so much, Burning Flame. I have so many questions, but they can wait. Good-bye,"
Coiled Snake licked Burning Flame's ear and got up.

"Good-bye,"
Coiled Snake herd his mew echoing in the distance.

She raced down the steep hillside. Her brown tabby pelt glowed in the dawn light. Her head filled with the new information. Her green eyes heavy with worry. Was Burning Flame's decision right for her pack?

The Adventures of Dew, Storm and Star 4#

Dew stalked a mouse. The small brown creature was gnawing on a nut, the mouse was oblivious of her presence. Suddenly, a blackbird screeched a warning and the mouse sprinted away. Dew stood still with shock for a moment, but then she raced after the mouse soon she spotted its thin pink tail trailing through the sodden ground. Dew hooked the mouse off the forest floor and bit its neck.

Proud of her catch, she trotted through the leaf litter. She found a dry spot and buried the mouse. Dew then slipped into the bushes and looked for more prey, her light gray pelt was slowly swallowed by the shadows.
*******
The sparrow flew off as Dew stepped on a half-buried leaf. Hissing with disappointment, Dew unburied her catches and brought them back to the hollow log that she, Storm, and Star lived in.

The leaves brushed her pelt. She saw Storm sunbathing only a few fox lengths away. "Storm!" Dew called happily, her mew muffled by her catches, a mouse and a rabbit. Storm leapt to his feet, surprised.

"Oh," he breathed, "Dew, hello. Looks like the prey is running well." Storm dipped his head in greeting.

"Lets go home." Dew meowed. And they walked to the log, purring.
