Alexia was still gaping at the large cave while Chestnut and Puff sniffed around the cave entrance. A cold breeze swept Alexia back into reality. She scooped Puff into her arms and began to step into the Cave of Fading Echos. Then, she stopped herself. She turned around and grabbed the two sacks, both filled with important supplies, and set them on the green, grass-covered ground. She opened up the bag that contained the food and water. She decided that they had enough to last for the quest. Then, Alexia realized that this mission could last for months. But, there weren't any stores close to the cave and she wanted to save the rest of her money for the journey home.
Alexia heard her stomach growl. She looked at Chestnut, who was prancing beside the bags and pawing at the ground with her jet-black hooves. "All right, all right," Alexia laughed. "We'll stop to eat. It has to be quick though. We need to get home in as little time as possible."
Then, Alexia dished out the food. She gave Chestnut a carrot. Then, she gave herself three crackers, a piece of cheese and a few gapes. She had finished the cheese and grapes when she noticed a steam hidden behind a few large boulders. Alexia ran over to the stream, the crackers sill clutched in her fist, and knelt down beside the water. She set the crackers on the grass, cupped her hands together and scooped up some water. Once she her dank her fill, she waited for Chestnut to finish drinking while she ate her crackers.
When the two where done, Alexia leaded the way back to the cave entrance. It was late in the evening now, but she was determined to carry on. The little group than entered the Cave of Fading Echos.
