The Adventures Of Dew, Storm And Star 7#

Dew crouched in the grass, her gaze fixed on a robin. She leapt but, she accidentally pushed off on a patch of dry leaves and the red-chested bird quickly flitted away. Dew hissed in frustration underneath her breath.

Dew looked around for some more prey. She sniffed the air for what seemed like forever until she finally caught the strong scent of vole. She swiveled her ears, trying to pinpoint where the vole was. She heard a flurry of scratching that sounded like the vole's claws on stone. Then silence. Dew thought that she should look for it over by the stone pile over to her right, although, she was doubtful that she would find it. The frantic sound of the claws told her that the vole had probably gotten frightened and hid.

Dew crept over to the rocks and looked around. A small black thing on the largest stone caught her attention. She opened her jaws to scent the air the air. The powerful smell of mouse hit the back of her mouth. She leapt high up into the air. Her paws landed directly on top of the mouse. Then Dew swiftly bit the back of its neck. She sighed. Finally, a successful kill. She picked up her catch and walked over to the small cave that Jinx now lived in. She came into the cave with the mouse in her mouth.

"Hello, Jinx! How are you today?" meowed Dew, trying to sound cheerful.

"I'm good. How are you?" Jinx croaked meekly.

"I'm great! I brought a mouse for you to eat," Dew said as she shoved the mouse into Jinx's face.

"I'm not hungry," Jinx muttered.

"Come on, eat. Please?" Dew pleaded desperately.

"Alright," Jinx sighed.

Jinx took a bite of the mouse. Then, realizing how ravenous she was, Jinx scarfed down the rest. Dew quietly purred with amusement as she watched.

Storm trotted into the cave with Cocoa, Chip and Star trailing behind him.

Storm looked at Jinx and purred happily, "You have visitors!"

"Hi, Jinx," Chip said politely.

"Hello," Jinx meowed.

Everyone greeted Jinx in the same way. The Cocoa announced, with a hint of laughter in her voice, "I brought enough prey for every cat here to stuff his or herself silly!"

The cats erupted into cheers. Then, they all ate their fill.

******

Dew slept, cuddled up with all of the cats that she knew. She was grateful for them all. They are her loved ones, her friends. They are her family.

The Amur Leopard

The Amur leopard is a true beauty with her amber, caramel, brown, dark cream and golden pelt with coal-colored spots and gray-blue eyes. She has a white chest and belly with a halo of cream around it.

Amur leopards usually live beside a river basin. Mates live close together, their territories sometimes overlapping slightly. Depending on age and sex, the size of an Amur leopard's territory can vary from 19–120 sq miles.

The Amur leopard can leap more than 19 feet horizontally and over nine feet vertically. Along with powerful jaws and sharp claws, these qualities help the Amur leopard hunt her prey. In the Ussuri region Amur leopards prey on sika deer, musk deer, Manchurian wapiti, moose, roe, mice, badger, fowl, raccoon dogs, hare and wild pig. In Kedrovaya Pad Nature Reserve Amur leopards hunt Eurasian black bears that are less than two years old and roe deer.

The Amur leopard is almost extinct. There is thought to be only 40 Amur leopards left in the world. Help save these beautiful cats survive by joining anti-poaching programs like WWF's (http://wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/amur_leopard2/#help). If people don't start stopping Amur leopard poaching and hunting, soon, these amazing animals will become extinct.

“Please help me.”

Dear Diary... #5

Hello!

Yesterday, I returned to my home from a vacation I took in New Jersey. I was gone Wednesday though Friday. I felt so happy to see my cat, Cosmo, great me at the door. Freya had to be dropped off at the vet clinic before I left for my vacation. I picked her up the next day. She was so overjoyed to see me! I am going to do a "Kitty Tips" about travailing with your furry friend dedicated to my trip to New Jersey.

Last night, Cosmo slept with me. He pushed himself up against my legs. I love sleeping with Cosmo. I also love waking up with Cosmo because he dose this funny and adorable thing every morning. He will jump out of bed before I awaken and lay down on his back on the floor, purring his head off. The moment I open my eyes, Cosmo macks a small noise that is close to a meow. When I look at him, he jumps to his feet and runs into the hall. Groggily, I follow him. Once he sees me, he shoots into the bathroom. As a start down the stairs, Cosmo steps out of the bathroom, looking at me pathetically. I sigh and climb back up the stairs and walk into the bathroom behind a very exited Cosmo. Then, Cosmo jumps into the tub. I begrudgingly turn the tub water on so that it is just drizzling. I wait for Cosmo to finish drinking. Then, I go on with my morning. Yep, that's how everyday of mine begins.

Speaking of Cosmo, his birthday is coming up on March 31. I don't know what to get him. He likes catnip, but he got catnip for Christmas. He likes playing with cat toys, but he got toys for Christmas. Maybe I can get him a pipe cleaner…well, if you readers have any ideas, please tell me! I know that I'm over thinking this. It's in March and that's very far away. I just would like to have planes for him, like giving him a wet food "cake". Thank you for helping me!

The Flaming River #4

Coiled Snake led her search party along the edge of the border. Then, Coiled Snake let out an exited cry. She had spotted three small shapes walking in the direction that the scent trail was going in! Those little figures might be the missing kits!

"Mew!" cried a very startled Hissing Snake.

"There! The kits are over there!" called Coiled Snake to the search party. The cats circled around the confused kits with anger in their eyes.

"You made us all get worried sick!"

"What do you think you were doing?"

Coiled Snake waved her tail in the air to silence the voices of her cats. Then, when they were all quiet, she called, "Lets ask the kits only the impotent questions and give them time to answer." Then she paused to catch her breath. She spoke once more as she walked toward the trembling kittens. "Now, what were you three doing, exactly?" she asked, her amber eyes piercing the kits' eyes.

"W-w-well, we wanted t-to chase a-away the stray cat..." said Singing Jay, her voice shacking.

"What? You kits wanted to chase down the cat that is on our hunting grounds? Are you kits crazy? You could have gotten yourselves killed!" Coiled Snake spat, enraged.

"No cat can scare me!" Summer Storm piped up bravely.

Coiled Snake purred. "Come on then. Let's go home." Coiled Snake admired the kit's strength in the situation but, decided not to say anything.

******

Soon, Coiled Snake, the search party and the kits were quite close to home. Coiled Snake shot into the clearing, calling to her cats to announce their arrival. But, then Coiled Snake stopped in her tracks. A vaguely recognizable scent hit her nose and a strange pelt came into site. The stray cat!

Coiled Snake resumed her dart forward to address the new cat. "What are you doing here?" she asked the gray she-cat with a white splash on her chest.

"I-I was just passing through...I wont do you any harm," the cat meowed, fear in her eyes.

"We wont do you any harm, as long as you leave!" Rock Shadow spat.

"Silence, Rock Shadow! Everyone, give the newcomer some space!" Coiled Snake called to her cats.

"Can I leave now?" the she-cat asked.

"What is your name? Mine is Coiled Snake. I am the leader of HawkPack," Coiled Snake meowed, waving her tail over the many curios faces watching the stray cat, ignoring the cat's question.

"My name? My name is Neptune," Neptune mewed in a soft voice.

"Pleased to meet you, Neptune. I know that this is a little uncalled for but, would you like to join HawkPack?" Coiled Snake asked.

"W-well, of coarse," Neptune meowed, surprise filling her eyes.

"Alright, then. Everyone, introduce yourselves to Neptune," Coiled Snake called.

"Hello. I'm Icy River. These are my kits, Summer Storm, Singing Jay and Hissing Snake. This is my mate, Rock Shadow," Icy River meowed to Neptune, pointing out the cats that she was naming as she went.

"Hi!" Neptune purred.

"My name is Shy Fawn," Shy Fawn called to Neptune.

"Hello, Shy Fawn," Neptune called back.

"My name is Maple Leaf," Maple Leaf meowed, dipping her head to Neptune.

"Hi!" Neptune said.

"I'm named Soft Breeze,"
Soft Breeze meowed, gazing happily up at Neptune.

"Pleased to meet you," Neptune said.

"I'm Casting Shadow. Hello, Neptune," Casting Shadow called to Neptune from the far side of the clearing.

"Welcome to HawkPack," Coiled Snake meowed.

Fallen Stars 5-Homeward Bound

Sunset walked on. She had been walking for quite a while and was now very tired. She decided to curl up to sleep. The minuet she closed her eyes, a strange sound blasted into her ears. Sunset looked around, swiveling her ears. The sound slowly faded away into the distance. She felt that she couldn't sleep now that she'd heard the sound. She got up and looked around once more, nervous. Then, she silently walked forward.

The noise erupted into her ears once more. This time it got louder and louder by the second. Then, Sunset recognized this sound. It was FOX!!

Sunset began to flee, but the fox was already upon her. Sunset hissed at the fox as she ran unsheathed claws along its flank. The fox bit her fore paw. Screeching in pain and fury, Sunset tried to fling the fox off of her, although she knew that it was no use. The fox was much bigger then her. Then, an idea popped into her head. She began to shimmy her way from underneath the fox. When she finally got out, however, the fox clamped its jaws on her half healed tail wound. Sunset wailed in pain and raked her claws along the fox's ears, hoping that that would make it loosen its tight grip. The fox let go only to grab Sunset's scruff and fling her across the clearing. Sunset yowled in pain but, her cry was cut off as her head hit a hard rock and she was knocked out.

******

Sunset woke up. Then, as she was getting up, she smelled, through the stench of fox, Crow and Stone! She looked around, but then she realized that their scents were old. They had been here yesterday. Sunset then recognized the place that she was in: it was her old hunting grounds! She was here!

Sunset shot forward. She swerved trees, leapt over logs, ran through tangles of grass, and slipped underneath bushes. Sunset, panting, ran over to a small, rocky hill. She remembered this hill! This was her home! She plummeted down the hillside. She announced her arrival with a happy chirp. Slowly, her friends began to gather.

Sunset was astonished to see how much Canary had grown. The little orange cat then squeaked, "Who is this cat, mama?"

Sunset felt sad. Had she really been away for so long that they didn't recognize her? Then, Sunset heard Blaze meow with astonishment in his voice, "Could it be...? Sunset? Is that you, Sunset?"

"Blaze!" Sunset cried happily.

Blaze's face echoed her joy. "Sunset! I can't believe that it's really you!"

"Oh you better believe that it's me!" Sunset purred playfully as she leaned over and gently nipped his ear.

A little while after she had told them the story of her travels, they all settled down to sleep. Sunset was pressed in between Blaze and Crow. She was content. She was home.

The Cove Of Eternal Darkness #1

IceWhisper skidded to the side as a brown dragon breathed fire at her. The dragon king, Kai, wanted more land for his dragons to hunt in. Kai had decided to target cat territory. Now there was a battle occurring. All of the cats dragons lives were at stake.

Then IceWhisper saw Fang cornered by three dragons. She "screamed" at them, allowing her and Fang to tackle down the two biggest dragons. IceWhisper chained down the one dragon that wasn't being fought with her ice breath.

While she was doing this, the dragon that she was holding down jumped to its feet and blew fire at her. Pain griped her pelt. Knocked down by the force, IceWhisper was now unconscious.

FairyFlame, meanwhile was stumbling toward a dragon, Fawnia. She leapt onto Fawnia's scaly green back, claws unsheathed. Fawnia thrashed around beneath her claws, until the dragon finally managed to pin FairyFlame down. Her teeth bared, Fawnia prepared to bite her neck. Then, FairyFlame saw mussy in the dragon's brown eyes. Fawnia loosened her grip and jumped off of FairyFlame and flew away in search of another enemy to fight.

FairyFlame stood there, stunned. She had just seen the other side of Fawnia. FairyFlame had always thought of the dragon tribe as enemies and no more. Now, she realized that they were kind. She picked herself up. She had to fight for her tribe, though. Then, she jumped into the fray.

******

The end of the battle had come to an end. Kai had won.The cat tribe now had lost several acres of land to the dragon tribe.

Fang, enraged, called after the departing dragon tribe, "This isn't the last you've seen of the cat tribe!"

The wounded cats began to lick their scratches clean. Fang shuffled into his den. "It isn't the last they've seen of us," he echoed.

Crystal on Snow #1

Sparkle went onto the fence, then she called, "Midnight! Charm!"

Midnight raced over to Sparkle and Charm raced after Midnight.

"Hi," said Midnight.

"Hi!" exclaimed Sparkle.

"How is everything going?" asked Charm.

"Everything's fine," meowed Sparkle. "Do you want to hunt?" asked Sparkle.

"Um, I guess…" meowed Charm, unsure.

******

After they ate, Midnight's human called, "Midnight!"

Then Charm heard her owner call her.

"Goodbye!" said Midnight and Charm.

"Bye!" meowed Sparkle as Charm and Midnight walked away.

Tired, Sparkle walked over to her den. She curled up and fell asleep.

Hi!

I'm very happy that "The Purple Paw" has progressed so much. When we started in October, this blog was slowly starting, but then, we did 18 posts in November. We started getting more views and we started creating more posts. To shorten this up, I would just like to thank readers for viewing our blog. This supports us and makes us more dedicated to this blog.

I enjoy petting my cats, Cosmo and Freya, but right now, let's focus on Freya. Freya really loves being scratched on her chin and behind her ears. She is very sick and old so, I've made her a bed out of a small blanket on top of a heating pad. I love her, and I always will.

Here is a picture of Freya I drew:
Bye, everyone!

The Cove Of Eternal Darkness-Introduction

Fang is the leader of this small group. He has two tail fangs at the tip of his tail.

BlackMagic can make whirlpools leading to other places and carry objects up to twice her size with her mind.

FairyFlame can make a fire burn and she can fly.

IceWhisper can make anything turn to ice at her will and can "scream" at enemies, stunning them.

RockFlight can fling up to 14 pound rocks at his enemy. He can also fly, like FairyFlame.

Fight beside them, hunt with them, live with them.

The Flaming River #3

Icy River watched her little trio of fur balls play with each other, mewling all the while. She was saddened that her kits might have to grow up in a world of fear, grow up afraid of straying, even slightly, away from a group of cats while hunting, she had grown up like that, and didn't want to relive those horrors.

Deep in thought, she had not realized that Rock Shadow, her beloved mate, had joined her side. She slightly jumped in surprise.

Once she had settled down after her little jump, Icy River meowed to him, "Hi there, Rock Shadow. I didn't see you there."

"Hi," was his only reaction. He was acting like his mind was busy with thoughts himself.

"What's wrong? You seem depressed about something," said Icy River gently.

Rock Shadow turned around sharply to look her directly in the face. "Nothing's wrong! Keep your nose in your own business!" he spat.

"What is with you? Do you have ear mites in your ears?" Icy River hissed.

Rock Shadow glared at her and then stalked out of the den. Icy River felt enraged and empty. Whenever she and Rock Shadow had little spats like this, she always wondered what had caused his rage. This time around, she knew that her guess of this cause was at lest close to right: that he was upset about the uproar he had caused at the meeting that Coiled Snake had called about the stay cat scent that she found while hunting.

Icy River was shaken out of her thoughts once more when she went to check on her kits. Then she realized something: Summer Storm, Singing Jay and Hissing Snake were all gone! She screeched a warning to the pack, "My kits are gone! My kits are gone!" she shouted to all of HawkPack.

Quickly, Coiled Snake set into action. She herself went on the search party. Icy River had to stay behind because she was a mother. She sighed, sadness enveloping her. Without her kittens, how would she have?

Shy Fawn pressed against Icy River to comfort her. But, Icy River had to many problems weighing down her mind to be comforted. Where had her kits diapered to? What would happen with the stray cat? And what was it exactly that was troubling her mate? She wished for answers that she knew would come in time, or would they?

The Adventures Of Dew, Storm And Star 6#

Star watched her father and mother, Storm and Dew, murmurer to each other. Star's gaze quickly flickered from Dew and Storm to Jinx. She felt her eyes water as she saw Jinx meekly lift her head. Jinx had always been kind to Star, and she had been a good friend to every one.

Star knew that Jinx was very sick, even though Dew and Storm didn't tell her. She walked off. She had to share her sorrow with someone who would cheer her up, other then her grieving family. And that someone was sweet little Chip!

******

Soon, Star came to where Chip and his mother, Cocoa, lived. She pitied the pair. They lived in a ditch. The only reason that they would not move is because Cocoa wanted to live nearby where the humans lived. Cocoa liked humans. In the meantime, though, the ditch had no sheltered spot that was out of rain or snow. The ditch was very muddy at the moment because it had rained just yesterday.

"Chip! Chip! I want to talk to you!" Star called.

"Star? Is that you?" a voice asked from the distance.

"Y-yes. Is that you, Chip?" meowed Star.

"No," Star saw Cocoa emerge from a bunch of bushes, covered in human scent.

"Oh. It's you." Star couldn't help but sound disappointed.

"Hoping for someone different, eh?" said Cocoa with a hint of laughter in her voice.

"I'm so sorry Cocoa! I didn't mean to be rude! I-I just need to speak with Chip."

"He's hunting," Cocoa meowed.

"Thank you, Cocoa!" Star called.

Star sniffed around until she finally caught Chip's scent. Quickly, she walked in the direction of his scent trail. It was only a little while until she found him. He was burying a vole.

"Hi, Chip!" Star meowed happily.

Startled, Chip whipped around to face her, wide-eyed. "Wha!..Oh! Hi, Star."

Star told him what had happened in the past few weeks, and he was sympathetic. He cheered her up by telling her to look at the bright side of things.* She smiled at him, and the pair curled up together.

Fallen Stars 4-Watching The Sun Rise

Sunset walked past bushes and rocks, unsure that she would find her way back to the cave.

She smelled a faint scent. What is that? she thought.

She thought about checking out the aria around her, but hunger wavered her scenes. She decided to look for some food.

A mouse soon came into site. Sunset dropped into a crouch. But, as she was preparing to leap onto the furry gray mouse, she heard a friendly meow from above. Of coarse, the mouse heard it too, and scampered off. Spitting in fury, Sunset whipped around to see who and what had disrupted her catch. A small, fluffy calico cat, a little under a year old, starred down at her from a large wooden fence.

"Hi there!" chirped the little calico.

"Hi...how are you?" said Sunset, forgetting about being mad at the cute kitten.

"Great!" purred the kitten enthusiastically. "How are you, and what are you doing outside your fence? Everyone knows it's dangerous out there."

Sunset paused in thought for a bit, not sure how to word how she ended up here. "Oh. I'm trying to get back to my home, to a cave. I got captured by the humans when I lived as a stray cat with a group of cats. We hunted for ourselves and fought battles beside one another. Although it might not seem to glorious to you, I loved my life...and the cats that helped me through the tough times," Sunset finally meowed.

The kitten looked stunned for a moment, but then meowed, "I understand. It would be like me losing my humans. I would never want that to happen. I love my owners..."

The two she-cats talked for a while and they learned each others names. The tiny calico's name was Blossom.

Soon, Sunset said, "Good-bye, Blossom!"

"Bye!" Blossom called.

Sunset walked away, and as the sun began to rise, Sunset's hopes began to rise to. She was determined to find her way back to the cave. She would be back there again! Back with her friends at her side.

Kitty Tips-Vet Checkups

Vet checkups are very important in a cats life. Once every six months you should take your cat to a vet clinic.

When you first get your new BFF, take him or her to a vet clinic for a checkup and shots. This will prevent parasites like Worms (Hookworms, Tapeworms, Roundworms, est.), Ticks, Mosquitoes and Fleas. This will also prevent diseases like Rabies.

Just because you got your new cat from the SPCA, doesn't mean that they don't have parasites infections or diseases. The shelter might not treat the cats when they find them or receive them. Even if they do treat the cats, you should still give your new friend a vet checkup.

If you did buy your cat from a SPCA, Animal Shelter, Farmers Market or another place, you should ask for your new cat's health records, when they were born, if they were spayed or neutered (depending on if they are a male or female) and what diseases, infections and/or parasites he or she might have.

Here is a list of some unhealthy things that cats may do that indicate illness or infection:

1. Vomiting frequently.
2. Constipation or Diarrhea.
3. Abnormal Urination.
4. Rashes and/or discharge in the eyes, nose and ears.
5. Abnormal behavior.

Report any of these signs to your vet.

Please remember: You are your cat's guardian and friend. View and use some advice and facts about cats. Take note that not everything is true. Some people will not find the right facts. Find different web sites and/or books and compere. It is important for the health of your cat that you get the right information.
Thank you for reading!

"Meow!" Cats Speak Out #4

Tiger meowed repeatedly until his owner caved and gave him another treat. Tiger purred as he ate the delicious treat. He rubbed his face against his owner's chin and then, at the sound of the doorbell ringing, he walked into the hall.

Tiger saw a human-no! TWO humans carrying a large package. Tiger's owner was now talking to them. Tiger sighed and sat down waiting for them to finish jabbering the day away and bring in the thing already. He needed to explore this object to make sure that it would pass "the home inspection".

Soon his human signed for the thing and the other people left. Tiger watched as his owner hauled the large object into the house all alone. Tiger decided to help his owner. He rubbed his owner's legs encouragingly. His owner stumbled and dropped the box right on Tiger! Tiger managed to get away (mostly) but the package hit his tail. Tiger screeched in pain and his human yowled with surprise. Within seconds, his owner lept to Tiger's side and puled the box off Tiger's tail. Tiger stumbled away from the box and flopped onto the bed. Sleep easily came to him.

Dear Diary...#3

Hello!

Today, I played with my cat, Cosmo. Cats are so cute and funny when they "hunt" the toy that they're playing with. Cosmo does this particularly cute thing when he plays. The second I get a toy out for him, he darts underneath my bed and, at the right time (in his point of view), he leaps at the toy, wide-eyed. When he does this, afterward I have a very ripped-up hand. =P

Cosmo's favorite toys are pipe-cleaners. Maybe it's because, growing up (in my house), I had allot of pipe-cleaner around the house. I think that it's adorable that, whenever he sees a pipe-cleaner he jumps on top of it and bats at it.

Does you're cat have a favorite toy?

Speaking of my kitties playing, my 15 year-old cat with kidney failure (Freya) loves playing with string (while meowing very loudly).

If your cat (or cats) have kidney failure or another sickness, I advise to remember and treasure all of the things that you and your cat (or pet) did together. If your BFF died, I give you my greatest sympathies for your loss.

The Flaming River #2

Coiled Snake sniffed the air for any scents of prey.

Rabbit, to much of a chase. Old frog scent....! Stray cat!?

Coiled Snake quietly hissed a warning to Maple Leaf and Rock Shadow. The two sniffed the air to pinpoint where the intruder was and quickly flattened themselves to the ground. Coiled Snake sighed in defeat. She had dealt with stray cat groups before and had lost many cats to their blood-hungry claws.

She turned towards the "camp" that HawkPack lived in. Then, she meowed, "Let's go home. We don't want to pick fights right now."

Rock Shadow opened his jaws in protest, but then, grudgingly, he stalked off. Maple Leaf simply fallowed Coiled Snake's orders and trotted beside Rock Shadow. Coiled Snake walked behind them, every once in a while, she would cast a worried glance over her shoulder.

Once Coiled Snake was back home, she told all of HawkPack the bad news."While hunting, we found out that a stray came into our hunting grounds. We did not see the cat, and I believe that he or she didn't hunt here. Let's just hope that this stray cat doesn't come back here ever again."

Rock Shadow raised his voice above all of the others. "What should we do about it though? Surly we won't just ignore the fact that a cat crossed the scent line that we made? Surly we won't just hope that it doesn't come again? We must FIGHT this cat to tech it a lesson." His eyes were burning with rage.

"You are to hungry for battle! We must avoid spilling blood whenever we can! The cat came one time. You must think before a you decide to fight," Coiled Snake hissed, enraged.

Rock Shadow glared up at her like a discouraged kit that hadn't gotten it's way. "Fine," he muttered.

"Dismissed," Coiled Snake called to her pack-mates.

As she watched her pack depart, Coiled Snake wondered if this stray cat would come often, or even live here. Would...would HawkPack have to move again?

The Adventures of Dew, Storm and Star 5#

Sadness erupted from Storm's heart as he gazed down at a very sickly Jinx. He eyes closed and tears poured down his soft gray cheeks as he remembered how all of this had happened.

Rain pounded on the top of the log, awakening Storm. Dew rose beside him. The pair stared lovingly at their sleeping daughter, Star. The joy-filled silence was broken by a desperate cry that was quickly cut off. Dew whipped her head around to face Storm with horrified eyes. Star jumped awake and bristled. Within seconds, they were rushing out of the log in the direction that the noise had come from.

When they came, a horrific site awaited them: a soggy lump of black-and-white fur lay in a river. Immediately, Storm hauled Jinx out of the quick-flowing water.

*******

Only five days after she fell into the water, Jinx began to sneeze frequently. Storm knew that she was quite sick. He gave her lots of comforting licks, and slept with her to keep her warm, but nothing worked. Soon, Jinx refused to eat, even when Dew had brought Jinx her favorite food; salmon. Jinx was getting more and more frail by each passing day.

Jinx was eating now, but even so, she ate very little. Storm gave her food and warmth, but she still remained sick. At times she seemed worse. A claw pierced his heart as he stared down at her delicate body laying limply as she slept.

He was so deep in thought that he hadn't heard Dew come and sit beside him. He felt her fur brush comfortingly along his pelt.

Dew's gaze met his and she murmured,"It's okay. She'll pull through."

Fallen Stars 3-Endless Struggles

Sunset looked out the window, sighing. She jumped down and meowed beside the door. Her human opened the door and waited for her to go out. Sunset jumped for joy and sped into her owner's yard.

Then, Sunset looked around. So many new sites, sounds, and smells!

Sunset walked for a long time before stopping to hunt and drink. She scented the crisp, cool air for any signs of prey. She could scent vole, but that was stale. It probably hadn't been here for three or four days. Soon, she smelled a new scent; sparrow. She crouched down and, jaws slightly open, she stalked into the tall grass to get a better view of the bird. The sparrow was trying to tug a worm out of the dirt, oblivious of her. Sunset crept closer and then she leapt into the air, landing on its wings. Then, Sunset killed it with a swift bite to the neck.

Sunset hid under a bush for cover while she ate her catch. When she finished, she curled up to sleep.

•••••••

Sunset awoke to a thin stream of morning sunlight shining through the leaves of the bush. She got up and slid out from under the bush. She started to walk west, where the cave lay, when she heard the sound of a dog barking. She tried to detect where it was, but when she did, she then realized that there was no cover. Then, she saw something; a large golden dot on the hillside. Bit by bit the dot was getting bigger and bigger.

The Dog!
She thought.

Quickly, she ran away from the dog, but it had already spotted her. Sunset felt the dogs breath hot on her tail. She saw a tree, far off in the distance.

While she was concentrating on the tree, the dog bit the wound on her tail, reopening the scab that the fox had given her. Screeching in pain and fury, Sunset whipped around and lashed out a front paw at the dog, raking her sharp claws across its muzzle. The dog yelped and jumped backward as blood sprang from the wound, giving Sunset time to race up the tree.

Sunset sighed with relief when she saw the dog turn tail and run away. Then she felt ice claw her heart, would she ever be back home in the cave?

Good-Bye To A Dear Friend

About a week ago, my dear kitty-friend Odin, passed away. He was with me for 18 years. A loyal friend who saw me through many highs and lows I faced in that time.

It has taken me a few days to find the strength to get through this post without crying. I'm just going to miss him so much. I realize that I was extremely fortunate to have him in my life for so long. I also am grateful that he died on his own. No difficult decision for me to make. It was simply his time. However, it doesn't mean I can't wish he was still with me.

I believe that when we die the people and animals we loved on Earth will greet us in heaven. I know Odin is waiting to greet me someday and in the meantime I'll love and cherish the memories we made together.

Dear Diary... #2

Hi!

Today, I adopted a stray cat. I was very worried about him being out there in the middle of winter. He came to my porch every day and was so full of affection that he would let me pick him up. So, early one morning, I grabbed him and put him in a cat carrier. His next stop was the vet clinic. He was dewormed, was checked for feline aids and leukemia, but everything other than that was pretty much covered. He was already neutered and had no ticks or fleas. After bringing him home, I named him Gemini. He is a long haired brown molted tabby tom Himalayan Persian. He is very sweet.

Today, I also practiced tricks with my cat, Cosmo. He will do four tricks: sit, stand (he stands only on his hind legs), come and his favorite, retrieve. He loves doing all of his tricks. Do you have a cat who will do tricks (please comment below with your answer)?

I also would like to add a picture of Gemini that I drew:

Bye!

Dear Diary... #1

Hello!

In this series on "The Purple Paw" I (KittyLover8) will write some things about me, mt cats, and lots more!

I think that I will start by telling readers about my cats, Freya ( see "Freya Limerick" http://thepurplepaw.blogspot.com/2011/12/freya-limerick_24.html) ), and Cosmo...

Freya is a brown tabby she-cat with a white chest, golden eyes and a raspberry-colored nose (I based the kit named Summer Storm in the series "The Flaming River" on her). She is 15 years old. She often plays like a kitten (meowing loudly all the while).

Cosmo is a white tom with some gray spots, a little gray cap, a gray tail, emerald eyes and a very pink nose. He is 2 years old. He will do many tricks (and he loves doing them).

So, those are my cats! =3

Now, a bit about me...

I adore cats. :D Reading and painting are favorite pastimes of mine. Well, that's about it...Oh! I also enjoy cooking.

Good-bye! :)

The Flaming River #1

Icy River looked down at her kittens, Summer Storm, Hissing Snake, and Singing Jay. Coiled Snake, the leader of HawkPack, walked over from the other side of the clearing and let out a gentle purr.

"Soft Breeze told me how old your kits are. They grow so fast! What are their names?" Coiled Snake meowed joyfully.

Icy River meowed proudly, "This is Summer Storm," she nodded at the brown tabby she-cat with a white chest and belly, "this is Hissing Snake," she flicked her tail at the gray tom with brown paws and a brown jagged spot on his back, "and this is Singing Jay," she glanced at the final kitten that was a molted gray-and-white she-cat.

"What wonderful names, fitting for these wonderful kittens, of course. I do have to go and hunt right now, but it was a pleasure to meet your wonderful family. I'm sure that they will be great hunters and fighters," meowed Coiled Snake over her shoulder.

"Good-bye!" Icy River called after her.

As she and her kittens walked into the shelter of the small cave that they lived in with Shy Fawn, Rock Shadow, Icy River's mate, ran up beside her and their kits.

"Hello, Rock Shadow!" Icy River meowed cheerfully.

"Hi! Maple Leaf told me that we should begin training our kits!" Rock Shadow meowed.

"MEW! I can't wait to start!" meowed Hissing Snake at the top of his voice.

"Let's go!" meowed Icy River as she ran off.

*******

After a long day, Icy River curled up in her nest. Purring joyfully, she tucked her kittens closer to her and slept happily.
