Good-bye, 2011

2011 is the year BlackCat13, KittyLover8, littlekitty5, and SuperPOWerHorse started "The Purple Paw". We started in October, and we have done 41 posts within that time. I encourage viewers to comment on our posts and tell us how they like our blog. I also would like to tell our viewers thank you. We think that 2011 has been a wonderful year.

Hello, 2012!

-KittyLover8

The year 2011 was full of creativity and new ideas. I'm not saying it was perfect though. It had its epic wins and its epic fails, along with lots of burnt popcorn kernels and caramel apples. :3 I hope 2012 will not be the end of the world and I hope I find no more burnt popcorn kernels in my popcorn bowl.

Happy New Year!

~littlekitty5

The Purple Paw had a late start in 2011, but we look forward to a full year of posting in 2012. Keep visiting us because when you do, it encourages us to write! I'm sure 2012 will be full of new stories to follow and maybe some new categories on the blog.

Welcome 2012!

-BlackCat13

In 2011 I had a great time, to bad it's over. I will really miss it. :( Well, 2012 is coming! :)

New Year's Eve With Dust

Dust emerged from behind the living room couch where he had been playing with a orange rubber ball. He walked into the kitchen for a quick bite to eat. His owner was making some punch in a large bowl.

What's she doing?
He thought.

Then, Dust realized that his human was talking to someone on the thingy called a phone. What is going on? Dust needed to know.

Dust padded away, heading for his food dish. Whatever his owner was doing, it was sure to be
something he did not approve of.

*******

Dust heard the sound of a door shutting. He rushed over ton the hall to see the human that had come. The second he saw that it wasn't just any old human and that it was a hole human family, he knew that something was up. Then, the doorbell rang.

Well this is odd...
Dust thought.

Three more families and two humans pored into the now loud room.

Dust knew what was happening.

Not another holiday! They already stuffed themselves silly at Thanksgiving, why did they need to do it again?

But, maybe they weren't all that bad. I mean, they couldn't all be bad...some of them had to be kind. So, at that, Dust rubbed up against a male human that was talking with a much larger male. Dust arched his back with joy as he waited for gentle fingers to scratch his chin and pet his flank.

But none came.

Who cares! I don't need any human to pamper me! he thought. Although, inside he felt sad and unloved.

Thinking that maybe there where some nice, cat-loving, book-reading humans, he meowed loudly to make himself the center of attention. The bustling group stopped talking and stared at him for a moment. One, a brown-haired human, walked up to him and cuddled him. He purred happily and butted his head against her chin. She set him down on a couch. Dust called sadly after her, but she was out of earshot. He sighed. He wished that the joyful moment he had spent with her had never ended.

*******

Later that day, all of the humans left. Dust said a final good-bye to the kind female human that had comforted him.

"Bye, Dust," she said.

Then, when she'd left, the house was silent. Dust ate a few scraps of forgotten food then he walked away, uninterested in anything but sleep.

After climbing the flight of stairs, Dust curled up on his owner's bed and slept. He dreamed that he was back in the brown-haired female's arms.

When he awoke, he knew that today was a new day. A new time. A new life. A new year.

Fallen Stars 2-Broken Silence

Sunset awoke, as she stood up, pain griped her tail. A fox had attacked the cave that she and a few more cats live in. She cast an uneasy glance at her tail and gave it a sniff. Sunset let out a sigh. Although her tail hurt like fire, it wasn't infected.

She walked out of the den, but one of her paws brushed up against a dry, brown leaf. Crow lifted his head, his eyes squinting in the dawn light. "Wazza?" Crow meowed.

"It's just me, Sunset," Sunset reassured him.

"I could care less if it where you or that mangy fox coming back again! I just want to sleep! It would be nice if I could without cats stomping around in the leaves like an upset badger!" Crow growled.

Sunset flicked her ears in anger. But then she just shook it off. Sunset then, pushed the rest of her way out of the den. Orange-red sunlight filled the deep-purple sky. Sunset loved dawn.

Blaze walked up to her, "Would you like to hunt with me, Sunset?" he asked.

Sunset blinked in surprise, then she shook her head to clear it and then asked, "Have you, Stone, and Crow checked for fox scent?"

"Yes. We found out that it left our hunting grounds."

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's hunt!" Sunset purred.

Then, tails trailing behind them, they ran off.

********

Sunset was stalking a vole. Once she was about three feet away from it, she ponced. But she had missed the little creature by an inch. She sighed. Then she stood up from where she lay in the grass.

Sunset lifted her head higher and slightly parted her jaws. The strong sent of mouse wafted into her nose. Sunset carefully stalked the small gray shape that was just ahead of her. Quickly, she leaped on top of her prey. She then picked up the limp mouse and placed it down beside her other catches; two birds.

A sudden crackle behind some thick trees made her spin around.

"Blaze?" she called.

No answer.

"Blaze? Blaze, are you there?"

Another loud snap of a twig.

"Blaze, please help me," Sunset whispered meekly, her eyes wide with fear.

Sunset tasted the air, only to find a strange stench filling the air. What is this creature, and why is it here? she thought.

Just then, a human walked out of the trees. Sunset let out a startled gasp when she saw what the human was carrying inside a cage; Blaze!

Sunset screeched with rage and flung herself at the human's leg. The human yowled and dropped the cage. And with that, it sprang open. Quickly, Blaze raced out of the cold silver cage.

The human yowled again and grabbed her. She screeched in fury as she was shoved into the hard cage. Then, Sunset turned around, wanting to see if Blaze was okay. Suddenly, she felt a sharp wave of pain quickly grow as she hit her head on the hard metal of the cage. Then everything went black.

********

Sunset awoke on a soft rug covering the ground underneath her. She shook her head, dizzy from all of the new sites and sounds.

Sunset sighed. Remembering where she was. She had been here, trapped with the humans for a week. She was always grateful for the kindness and gentleness they showed her, but she wanted to be back home, in the cave.

A young human stroked her fur. Sunset closed her eyes in content, but a question raked through her mind; was she trapped here forever?

"Meow!" Cats Speak Out #3

Feather stood beside the window, listening to the rain drumming on the glass. Feather would bat at the droplets if they happened to dribble down the screen. Her ears twitched at the sound of a door opening. She ran down the stairs and raced through the small crack in the half-opened door.

Excitement flared through her as the the wet grass brushed against her long gray fur. Her ears flattened as she streaked past a fence. Slowing, she noticed her owner was almost upon her. Feather stopped; giving in, letting her owner bring her back to the warmth of her home.

Rain split her fur, and stray droplets sat on her whiskers. Shivering, she shook the drops off; much to the displeasure of her now-yowling owner.

Once home, her owner placed her on the floor and scolded her. Taking no notice, Feather walked away, tired after her mini adventure.

Before she slept, she looked out the window. She shivered, remembering the cold wind that had pulled at her fur and had bit at her nose and ears. Not looking back, Feather curled up on the bed. And, glad to be home, she slept.

The Flaming River-Preview

Coiled Snake padded along the silver-lit stone.

Moonlight lit her fur as she looked upward and whispered, "Oh please help us StarCats, please," her quiet mew was desperate.

Coiled Snake looked down at her moonlight-bathed paws, and at a nest made of ferns.

"This is the place," she meowed.

She sat down, in the nest and looked at the thin wisps of clouds that drifted above her. Suddenly, a orange tabby tom jumped off of a cloud.

"Hello, Burning Flame. I-I need help, will you help my pack,"
Coiled Snake said.

"Of course. All StarCats of MoonSky always help cats in need," Burning Flame meowed."Now tell me what is bothering you."

"Stray cats are stealing prey from our hunting grounds. A dog keeps on straying from its High-walkers. We can't fight the dog or the stray cats and when we do, we lose from our hunger,"
Coiled Snake meowed.

"I see. I know the solution to all of this. You must become HawkPack. Find more cats to join you and move away from this place. The StarCats will be watching you from MoonSky. Just remember; you are never alone."

"Thank you so much, Burning Flame. I have so many questions, but they can wait. Good-bye,"
Coiled Snake licked Burning Flame's ear and got up.

"Good-bye,"
Coiled Snake herd his mew echoing in the distance.

She raced down the steep hillside. Her brown tabby pelt glowed in the dawn light. Her head filled with the new information. Her green eyes heavy with worry. Was Burning Flame's decision right for her pack?

The Adventures of Dew, Storm and Star 4#

Dew stalked a mouse. The small brown creature was gnawing on a nut, the mouse was oblivious of her presence. Suddenly, a blackbird screeched a warning and the mouse sprinted away. Dew stood still with shock for a moment, but then she raced after the mouse soon she spotted its thin pink tail trailing through the sodden ground. Dew hooked the mouse off the forest floor and bit its neck.

Proud of her catch, she trotted through the leaf litter. She found a dry spot and buried the mouse. Dew then slipped into the bushes and looked for more prey, her light gray pelt was slowly swallowed by the shadows.
*******
The sparrow flew off as Dew stepped on a half-buried leaf. Hissing with disappointment, Dew unburied her catches and brought them back to the hollow log that she, Storm, and Star lived in.

The leaves brushed her pelt. She saw Storm sunbathing only a few fox lengths away. "Storm!" Dew called happily, her mew muffled by her catches, a mouse and a rabbit. Storm leapt to his feet, surprised.

"Oh," he breathed, "Dew, hello. Looks like the prey is running well." Storm dipped his head in greeting.

"Lets go home." Dew meowed. And they walked to the log, purring.

Kitty Tips-Christmas Safety

Christmas season can be a very dangerous season for cats. People decorate their homes with plants that are poisonous to cats and with ribbons that cats can choke on. I will list some alternatives that are safe for your cat.

Poinsettias and mistletoe are poisonous to cats. Instead of decorating the house with the real plants, buy fake mistletoe and poinsettias. They look just as festive and are much more safe.

Ribbons look like grass to cats, so they are naturally drawn to chewing on the ends of ribbons. A way to solve this is to buy cat grass for your cat. This could help them distracted from the ribbons and other dangerous things around the house.

Cats are kind and curious animals. Taking care of your cat is important. Alternatives and relinquishing a few minor things can help you and your cat on the magnificent journey of life.

Fallen Stars 1-The Deadly Red Shadow

Crow's angry hiss echoed across the clearing, awakening Lavender. Stone, her mate, lifted his head and stood up beside her. Lavender glanced at Stone and then at Canary, her kitten. Stone walked out of the small cave that he, Lavender and Canary slept in.

Outside, Crow was battling a large red fox with Sunset. Stone jumped on the fox's back and raked its sides. Sunset raked her claws across the fox's muzzle. In turn, the fox bit her tail. Blood splashed on the dusty ground. Crow nipped the fox's hind leg, but then jumped back when the fox swiped at him. Stone leapt to Crow's aid, but the fox slammed into a large stone at the heavy blow of Sunset's hind legs. The fox got up, shook itself, and ran off.

Blaze, who had been out hunting, raced into the clearing."What happened?" he exclaimed, his mew muffled by a shrew and two mice that dangled in his jaws.

"A fox attacked camp," Sunset panted, out of breath.

"I'm so sorry that I couldn't help," Blaze meowed sadly, guilt heavy in his voice. "I was out hunting."

"It's fine. I'm sure you would have fought just as hard as the rest of us if you had been here," Sunset soothed,"In the meantime, let's enjoy this prey."

Everyone nodded in agreement, and Stone summoned Lavender out of the cave. Then, they all settled down to eat.

********

The full moon bathed the clearing in a silver glow. In the distance, an owl screeched, awakening Sunset. She stepped out of the fallen tree that she shared with Crow and Blaze. She bit back a cry of pain as she brushed her mangled tail against a bush. She sighed. Would the fox ever come back? For the first time, she began to question their safety here in the hollow.

Blaze unexpectedly settled down beside Sunset. "Tomorrow, Stone, Crow, and I are going to scout the territory for any signs of the fox," Blaze meowed.

Sunset settled her green gaze affectionately on Blaze's golden eyes. Then the two walked back into the log, tails twined, curled up together, and slept.

"Meow!" Cats Speak Out 2#

Cinnamon worked his paws up and down the wall as though he were digging. He liked doing this.

One day, while searching the house for something to explore, Cinnamon came across a hole in the wall. The hole was just a bit to small for him to fit through. So, Cinnamon pawed at the hole until a piece of wood fell from the hole to the floor. Jumping back in surprise, Cinnamon flattened his ears with fear.

After a while, Cinnamon approached it and sniffed it. "I guess that it will do no harm..." Cinnamon's cautious mew trailed off. He could now fit through the hole. It was dark and dusty in the hole, but soon he found himself outside. The house loomed over him, casting a shadow on the lush, green grass. Cinnamon walked some way before hunger drove him to search for food.

A mouse half-hidden by grass was just a few feet away from him. Cinnamon stalked the mouse, his eye shone in the midday sunlight. With one stealthy bite to the neck, the mouse fell limp in his jaws. He ate the mouse quickly.

Then a wave of sadness came over him. Cinnamon missed his owners. So, Cinnamon headed for home.

*******

Once Cinnamon had pushed his way through the hole, he slept, dreaming about his adventure.

Cat Poem

Cat's ears flick backwards,
Cat's eyes open,
They gleam as the moonlight reflects off of them.
Cat's whiskers press forward,
As cat's fur begins to rise,
Cat's nose twitches,
And his ears now flatten,
As cat lets out an angry hiss,
"Meow!" he cries,
Claws flash,
And cat's sharp teeth show,
His enemies paws skid along the dew-laden grass,
And now,
Cat, once again,
Can rest.

Kitty Tips-Grooming Your Cat

If your cat is a long hair, then a wide-toothed comb would work best for his fur. On a short haired cat, use a bristle brush or a baby brush. Be sure to be gentle, but firm at all times. Your cat's legs, belly, and tail should be brushed with a bristle brush, no matter what his fur length is. If your cat is a short hair, brush his fur once or twice a week. If he is long haired, brush his fur three to four times a week.

Clip your cat's claws monthly, if your cat's fur is dark (Black, dark gray, dark brown, etc.), his claws will probably dark, too. If the pink bundle of nerves within the claws is hard to see, you might what a specialist to clip your cats claws.

Grooming your cat is a special and important time for you and your cat. Grooming your cat can help you bond with him and keeps him healthy.

Thanksgiving With Pumpkin

One day, Pumpkin the kitten walked into the kitchen. Pumpkin's owner was busy making food. "I wonder what she is going to do with all of this food." she thought, as she jumped on to the counter. There where pies and tarts dumplings and cranberry sauce sprawled all over the counter. Pumpkin almost knocked over a huge bowl of mashed potatoes. Her owner picked her up and set her on the floor.

Pumpkin sighed. Now, she sprang onto the dining room table. There where colorful pumpkins from red to orange to yellow. Round, white plates were at the place of every chair. A brown, wicker horn sat in the center of the table. The horn was filled with wax fruit, including apples and pears. Golden paper leaf cut-outs where laid down on every plate.

Pumpkin leaped down from the table, dizzy with excitement. Just then, the doorbell rang. Pumpkin's owner quickly ran to the door and opened it. Three people greeted her; in their hands they held even MORE food. Then the humans all sat down to eat.

********

Later that day, the other people left and Pumpkin's owner walked up to her and gave her a dish full of Pumpkin's favorite food.

"Happy Thanksgiving, Pumpkin!" she said.

Pumpkin happily ate the food. Then she curled up in her little cat bed.

"Happy Thanksgiving," Pumpkin meowed.

Kitty Tips-Feeding Your Cat

Cat foods can have multiple different textures; dry, semimoist, and wet foods. Dry foods are best to feed a young cat, because they clean their teeth. When a cat is older, sometimes it is easier for them to eat wet food or semimoist food. Depending on the life stage, kitten (Less then one year old), adult (One to six years old), and mature adult (Seven to fifteen or more years old), it is up to you, your cat, and your vet to decide on witch food is best for your cat.

Wight gain can be a big problem. The amount of food given to your cat daily differs depending on your cats size. Half a cup to a cup of food is a good amount. Finding a properly balanced food brand can be hard. Nutrients that your cat should have are, vitamin A, C , and E, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, carbohydrates, fats, and omegas three and six.

Cats need to have grass to chew. If they have eaten anything toxic, grass will make them regurgitate. You can buy grass that is healthy for cats to eat. If you don't do this, your cat might eat your potted plants inside your house. Some of which may be poisonous.

Be sure to give your cat the proper type of food (dry, wet, and semimoist), the right amount (this depends on your cat), and a perfect balance of nutrients with some grass to have a healthy cat.

"Meow!" Cats Speak Out 1#

Ice tilted his head, about to pounce on a sock. He liked playing with socks. 'Plip' he landed on the sock. "What fun this is!", he exclaimed as he began to cover the sock with a bubblegum wrapper and invisible dirt. Ice walked out of the bedroom for there was too much to clean up in there.

He ran into the kitchen to grab a snack. There he searched the counters and found a few pieces of potato. How did it get there? He didn't know. Though one thing was for sure, it was yummy!

After licking up the potato scraps, he jumped off the counter. Ice had just spotted the couch. He scratched the soft cloth. The couch was now marked his.

Ice sighed. What a day! He had cleaned the bedroom, wiped the counters, and marked the couch his (by scratching it). "Well, at least I got a days work done!" he meowed joyfully.

Storm and Jinx had brought home plenty of prey. Star grabbed a minnow out of the pile. "Chip!" she called. Chip, who lived close by, ran toward her. "Yes, Star?" he meowed. "Would you like to eat with us? There is plenty of food. Jinx and Storm caught it." Star asked. "Okay! I'll go get Cocoa." Chip called over his shoulder, racing for his home.

As she watched Chip go, she felt a soft touch on her back. Star looked behind her. A wave of joy flooded over her when she saw her mother, Dew. "Hello, Star. If you want, you can play with Chip after eating, but be shore to play in the clearing, where I can see you."

Just then, Chip emerged from the heather, Cocoa close behind him. "Chip! Cocoa! I'll get something for you to eat-" Star exclaimed. "No, it's fine." Cocoa said, purring with amusement.

********

After a good meal, Star and Chip played fight. Star ducked as Chip swiped at her. Star pounced at him, but missed. Chip jumped on her, and they rolled around together. After a few more playful attacks, the two departed.

"Good-bye, Chip!" she called after him. She turned toward the hollow log that she slept in. The setting sun caused the clouds to become a pink, orange, red, or dove gray. Birdsong was her music, and soft ferns where her bed. "Sweet dreams." Dew whispered in her ear. Star fell asleep, joy filling her dreams.

Meet Tiger

Tiger walked into his owners bedroom, after a nice midnight meal. To announce his presence, meowed, "Mew! Mew! I'm here!" he cried. No answer. Tiger sighed. He desperately wanted tub water. Even though his owner was asleep, he was still going get some. So, he lay down on the floor, and rolled over, belly up. He waited, and waited until he fell fast asleep

The next morning, Tiger awoke, just before his human. He meowed a distinctive "Murr?" to let his owner know that he was there. When his human looked at him, he waited just one second before he flipped over, and trotted out the door and sat down.

When his owner went into the hall to go downstairs, Tiger ran into the bathroom and jumped into the tub. "Oh, alright." his owner sighed, turning the tub water on. 'Now, THAT is the right way to get a drink.' he thought as he lapped up the flowing water.

The Adventures of Dew, Storm and Star 2#

Storm awoke, bathed in sunlight. He pushed himself to his feet, blinking his eyes open. He walked out of the hallow log that he, his mate, Dew, and their kitten, Star slept in. The green grass bent underneath his paws as he walked along. Dew-laden bushes drooped under the wight of the flowers that hung on them. The sun sparked the dew on the grass and made Storm feel like he was surrounded by small stars. His dark blue eyes reflected the blazing sun.

"Hello!" a soft voice startled him. Storm wiped his head around to see a black-and-white she-cat with dazzling blue eyes standing behind him. "Oh, hi Jinx! You startled me." Storm meowed, sighing with relief. "I'm sorry, Storm. I just stopped by to see how you where feeling." Jinx said, sitting down. "I'm better! I was just about to hunt. Would you like to come with me?" Storm asked. "Why of course! Lets go!" Jinx exclaimed. So, they ran for the pond. They brushed past the last few ferns and bushes until they reached the pond.

Storm lost a frog in the deep-blue water. Storm turned to Jinx, who's blue gaze was resting on a minnow. In one lightning-fast move, Jinx flicked a fish out of the water and bit its neck, flicking shining droplets of water from her raspberry-colored nose and ivory-white whiskers. Jinx placed the minnow on the shore. "Jinx, I think that I'm going to hunt closer to the forest. I'll meet you back here later." he mewed, starting off. "Okay." Jinx replied, tail twitching at the site of another minnow. Storm raced away.
*********
Storm returned to the pond with a mouse and two sparrows. Jinx had caught three minnows and a frog. Then, side by side, Storm and Jinx walked home.

The Bobcat

Bobcats are about the size of a house cat; two feet tall and three to four feet long.

Bobcats are a subspecies of lynx, giving them their other name, red lynx. Bobcats are wonderful swimmers, like lynx are.

Bobcats are commonly found in deserts, prairies, swamplands, mountains, and around forests. The size of their territories very, depending on how old they are, their gender, and the distribution of prey. Bobcats prefer to make their homes in thickets, rock ledges, and hollow logs.

Bobcats eat anything from insects, birds, rabbits, hares, and rodents to deer.

Bobcats have long, reddish-silvery-brown fur coats with black tabby markings. They have golden-and-white muzzles and white bellies and chests with some cream, brown, and gold smudges here and there. They also have short bop tails.

Meet Feather

Feather purred as her owners pet her. With a final rub against her humans toe, she meowed a good-bye and walked over to her dish. She loved her life. Nice owners, and plenty of food. What more could a girl want?

After a good meal, Feather went into her owner's bedroom for a look around. There was always something to explore or play with in there. A green hair ribbon lay on the floor. Feather silently began to stalk it, knowing that if she waited any longer, the ribbon might flee. She pounced on it, ripping little green strands out.

Purring with satisfaction, she walked out of the room with the string in her mouth. This was the only life to live.

Dew walked over to her mate, Storm. "How are you,Storm?" Dew asked, worried about what the answer might be. Storm had been sick lately, just a small cold, Dew was still very worried about it, though. "I think that the cold is clearing up!" Storm replied, knowing Dew's worry. "That's good to know." Dew purred, rubbing against him. Just then, their kitten, Star, skid past on the sodden grass, Chip, her older companion, fallowing close behind.

"WHERE, may I ask, is your mother, Chip?" Storm called after them. Chip stopped and, sadly, looked at his white paws. "Well...um...she found some humans and she gos to there house every day." Chip explained. Dew felt bad for him. Cocoa, his mother, was never focused, although, she was a sweet and caring mother."Well, Chip, don't travel to far." Dew reminded him."I'll remember that, Dew, thank you!"He called over his shoulder as he raced off.

Dew now turned to look at Storm."I'm going to hunt. Star and Chip will be hungry after their mini adventure." Dew said. "Okay. I feel very tiered.I'm going to rest a while." Storm meowed as he walked into the large log that they slept in. Dew ran over to him and gave his cheek a lick, "Good-bye, Storm." She purred and walked off.

********

Dew's hunt went well. She had hunted, two fish, a mouse, and three frogs. When she came back home, she was greeted enthusiastically by Star and Chip. "I'm glad your back. Star and Chip are anxious to tell you about their 'mini adventure'."

Little Brown Kitten

Little brown kitten,
Little brown tabby,
Please, don't run away.
I may be frightening
At first sight,
But, I'm gentle in a way.
Don't be scared,
Little brown kitten.
Please, come out of your hiding place.
I only wish to pet your smooth fur.
That's it,
Come on out.
See?
I love you dearly,
Sweet kitten.
I love the way you sniff me,
I love the way you welcome my fingers' touch to your pelt.
Good-night.
Oh! You want to f0llow me?
Come now,
Sleep tight,
My sweet,
My Little brown kitten,
My Little brown tabby.

Meet Cinnamon

Cinnamon's tail twitched as he awoke in the folds of a blanket. As he got up, he yawned and stretched his stiff legs. He walked past his owner, who was still asleep, and jumped off the bed.

"Time for play", he meowed happily while exploring the moonlit room.

He noticed that the closet door was slightly open. He abruptly ran inside, not wanting this glorious chance to be wasted. He looked around and saw a folded up blanket. A fluffy blanket.....his FAVORITE blanket! He began to knead the soft fleece and suck on its folds.

Satisfied, Cinnamon walked out of the closet, still purring.

Do Cats Play Sports?

One question eventually bugs our minds every once in a while. That question is, do cats play sports? Even though we KNOW cats don't, we always like to imagine cats playing soccer or baseball, etc. Well, at least I do. Last night, an image crossed my head:
Now I know for SURE cats don't play sports.

Well, I can't just post that can I? So I'll ask you this question:

Do you ever feel like your cat has been sleeping in the same area for about ten hours???

I can answer your dilemma with this little story:

You walk into your bedroom. Your cat jumps on your bed. It lays down. It immediately falls asleep. You walk out of your bedroom and go down the stairs. You put on your shoes and your jacket. You don't know why you put on a jacket. The sun is shining. You may sweat to death. It just seemed proper.

Okay. That's your FIRST mistake. Mistake Number 1#: Leave the house while your cat is asleep.

You are going to the grocery store. You only need bananas, but you will also get a new chair, a box of nails, some cookies for your non-existent children, and all sorts of things you don't need, but you got them anyways because you had coupons for them, or they were on sale.

Mistake Number 2#: Leave your cat alone for a long time.

Why am I telling you this? Really?? You've NEVER heard of the Cat Society??

Well, the Cat Society is a big cat community that has parties all day. They have parties in other cats' houses. Humans are a big interference in their fun though, so they have parties in other cats' houses WHILE the humans are away. And they're BIG parties, too.

And when you come home, all the party cats leave, and your cat returns to "sleeping". You see, your cat lets the OTHER cats in. It also joins in the fun.

So now you know why you find cookies and other things that you don't remember buying under your couches and bed.

Beware of the Cat Society,

Some Cats Love Multi-Tasking

Wow. Have you ever noticed some cats just LOVE multi-tasking?? The cats who multi-task must think life is too short and that they should get everything done ASAP.

Some cats, though, are different. And the cats that are different think life is so short, you might as well enjoy it, so these cats take their time eating, drinking, breaking things, sleeping, etc.

The multi-taskers though, do multiple things at the same time like eating/meowing, playing/washing, meowing/purring, etc.

This is a drawing I did based on a real multi-tasker. Yep, this cat decided to drink and take a bath at the same time:

Some cats just think their time is REALLY limited.

So now you know why your cat is drinking and hacking a hairball into its water bowl at the exact same time.

Hope you have a large stash of paper towels and multi-purpose cleaner,

Meet Ice

Ice returned in the wee hours of the morning from a night of prowling. The only light he could see was the dim moon showing through the dark clouds. He warily put paw over paw until a potted plant came into sight. He joyfully jumped into the pot and started to dig in the soft, brown soil. Dirt flew in the air and fell to the ground.

"Mission accomplished", Ice purred after he dug a nice, deep hole. Then he curled up and slept soundly.
